Berlin: Two Planets

This week, Two Planets celebrated its soft opening. Located at the top of the hill on Hermannstraße, just up the block from Hermannplatz, Two Planets is a tiny new shop with a special selling point: bagels!

Now, I am no expert on New York-style bagels, but what I do know is that bagels are generally tasty and awesome. They're also really hard to make look nice (at least if my attempts to make them are any indication--they always turn out delicious and lumpy). And they aren't necessarily something you can regularly come by in Berlin. So in that sense, this place is pretty great; it's not just another coffee shop, but one that's offering something different. (Side note: apparently the bagels have also hijacked the Twitter account.)

Of course, there are other options, like salads and various baked goods, as well as coffee from Bonanza. I definitely had some of the latter to accompany my cinnamon-raisin bagel.

Inside, the decor is simple, with a white and black color theme and a few plants here and there to add a splash of color. The front room gets a lot of light from the window facing the street, and is ideal for working (free WiFi), reading, or just hanging out with a friend. I only briefly checked out the back room, but didn't sit there, as it was a bit too dark for my taste. Even so, the overall vibe was nice--welcoming, unpretentious, and worth another visit.
